Great interview!! Interesting discussion on beta cells and the importance/dependence on mitochondrial health and function within the beta cells. (Mitochondria health also seems to be relevant in so many other scenarios, i.e. cancer). He mentioned that dietary intervention improved the function of the beta cells in roughly half the patients with Type 2 diabetes, theoretically reversing their diabetes. Their dietary intervention appeared to be a low calorie (1500) whole foods type approach?? Is this the only diet approach? In the discussion on diet, I tend to default to the question of “Is there a best diet covering nutritional needs AS WELL AS mitochondrial health?”. Personally, I have adopted the carnivore (low carb- high fat) diet several years ago as my foundation for attempting all-around macronutrient/micronutrient quality as well as metabolic function. Thanks much Nick!
